Why Donate?
If you like the progress recently exhibited at Hillside, then please show your support of these initiatives with a donation to Friends of Hillside Dog Park.

  • Lobbying and coordination work that resulted in the Parks Dept. committing to install the following in June/July 2006:
    • A water source inside the park and two dog/human fountains.
    • Two new entrances on Vine Street, including one entrance directly into the small dog run.
    • Double doors installed on all entrances to prevent unintended dog exits.
    • Small fenced community garden to be built at the corner of Columbia Heights and Vine St.
  • Regular park cleanups.
  • New Website to make it easier to keep updated with what's going on at Hillside.
  • New advocacy with local politicians and the Parks Dept. to ensure Hillside's future as a dog park.

The Parks Department is a great partner for Hillside Dog Park; however, the Parks Dept has no annual budget for park maintenace and improvements. Hillside volunteers from the community keep the park clean. Most park initiatives are started, and often paid for, by Friends of Hillside Dog Park.

In the past, donations to FHDP were used for:

  • Construction of the circular benches around the trees.
  • Build fencing to create the small dog run area
  • Planting new trees
  • Garbage Cans
  • Bulletin Boards
  • Dog Park-related political advocacy
  • Hosting open meetings for the dog park community

Future donations may be used for:

  • Restoration and weatherproofing of the circular benches (they're five year old and starting to deteriorate).
  • Attachments to the water fountains to wash dogs.
  • Dog agility equipment.
  • A barrier for the chain link fence bordering the BQE to block off the expressway from view.
  • Planting of new ivy and bushes to eventually become the barrier that blocks the BQE from view.
  • Removal of dead trees near BQE fence.
  • Special events such as low cost dog microchipping, dog training and health clinics.
  • Continued park advocacy with the 'powers that be' to ensure Hillside remains a valuable Brooklyn resource for many years.
  • Hosting open meetings for the dog park community
